Journal Entry #11

Practice freewriting. Freewriting is when you write quickly without stopping to think or organize your thoughts. Don't worry about grammar or spelling. Just write as much as you can in 10-15 minutes. Check your textbook if you don't remember what freewriting is.
Topic: Weddings in My Country

In my country, a wedding has many small ceremonies. First, usually in the morning, the groom's house come to the bride's house and carry out the ceremonies. It is called "meet the bride and bring her home". Both of the bride and groom wear "Ao dai", it is Vietnamese tranditional custom. Then they meet all of the members of two families and worship the ancestors. After that the groom's house will give the bride's house the offerings which were prepared before they come. They include betel and areca, five fruits (bananas, oranges, kumquats, finger citrons), wine and jewelries for the bride. Next, the groom's mother wear the jewelries for the bride. And the groom and the bride give the rings to each other. Since then, they become husband and wife. Most of Vietnameses hold theses ceremonied at home more than in a church. In the evening, the couple has a wedding party at a restaurant with 2 familes, relatives, friends, colleagues. Someone will be a MC and annouce about this event. Then the couple's parents talk something about their son and daughter and express the appreciation with everyone who comes there. They cheer up for the couple's happiness. The party has a lot of fun and last untill midnight. They want to have a big wedding because wedding is a very special day and will be unforgetable in their life.
