Journal Entry # 33

What are you going to do over the 3 day weekend?

On this long weekend, I'm going to go to Santa Barbara on Sunday and back on Monday morning. I've been there one time but at that time, I was a little girl, so I almost forgot everything about that place. My friend living there told me many times about Santa Barbara. She said that is such a wonderful place to visit. I'm also gonna go to Solvang. That place is a Danish town. I am too excited to see a little Denmark there. Up to now, I've seen windmills on TV or on the internet, so I wonder how they are. I hope I have a lot of experience there and Santa Barbara is a good choice for this long weekend.

Thanksgiving is coming up soon. What three things are you most thankful for?

Thanksgiving is one of the big holidays in the U.S. After Halloween, Thanksgiving is also my new holiday here. It is coming up. I have many things which I am most thankful for, but there are three main things. Firstly, I want to thank for my parents. When I was a child, I used to be naughty and didn't listen to my parents much. Now, I repent for having been so mischievous. They bore me and gave me a healthy body. Moreover, whenever I live here, they have to work harder than ever to earn money to pay for my tuition fee. I appreciate that very much. Secondly, I want to send my thankfulness to my brother and other roomates who live with us. He came here earlier than me, and now he knows a lot of things here. I have been told everything about American lives, schools, people, etc. He also helped me do any necessary matters. He works and pays for my expenses here. We and other roomates live as a family. That's why I am not homesick too much. I feel more comfortable when living here. I think I am so lucky. Finally, I want to thank for all of my teachers both in Vietnam and in the U.S. Although some teachers I don't like, but I can't help thinking about what I have been given. Most of my awareness are from my teachers. I always respect them. In conclusion, I really want to send my thankfulness to three important things making my life now.

Is it ever okay to lie? In which circumstances?

Lying is not always bad, sometimes, it is okay. First, lies to make one happy. For example, you are doing homework, your friend calls you, and she says she is very depressed and needs someone to talk with her. When she asks you whether you are busy or not, you reply that you are not busy, but in fact, you have much homework to solve. You are telling a lie, but your lie is not bad, it helps her a lot. Second, lies to help yourself. You can avoid having problems. It doesn't mean you hurt other people. For instance, when you come to class late, you tell your teacher thousands of reasons why being late such as: traffice jam, alarm doesn't work, etc. Sometimes your teacher may trust you, and then, you get out of trouble. Telling lies is good or bad depends on you. To sum up, you should tell lies in approriate circumstances.
