Research Halloween online and write a paragraph summarizing the holiday.

Halloween is annual holiday which is celebrated on the night of October 31. There are many activities in this holiday include: trick-or-treating, watching horror films, visiting haunted houses, etc. The term “Halloween” is shortened from “All-hallows-eve”. Halloween is very popular in most of Western countries such as: the United States, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Canada, Puerto Rico and sometimes in Australia and New Zealand. This holiday was started by “The Celtic Festival of Samhain” of Celts who lived in Ireland and northern France many many years ago. They hold this festival to comemorate and glory Saint Samhain on Oct 31 (with Celts, at the beginning of November was also the beginning of the new year) because he administered the dead people’ souls. In nineteenth century, Irishes and Scottishes immigrated to America and brought the version of this holiday to here. Trick-or-treating is one of main activities in Halloween. Children in this night usually wear special costumes and masks, then they come to houses arround the place they live and ask for candies with a question “Trick-or-treat?”. This term means if the host don’t give them candies, they will do bad things so that most of people give them candies or cookies. The symbol of Halloween holiday is “Jack-O’-Lantern” which is carved from pumpkin. According to Irish legends, “Jack” was a name of the Irish guy and, when he died, he couldn’t go to the heaven or go to the hell because he was so mean and ridiculed devils and tempters. Finally, he had to wandered on the streets with a lantern. Nowadays, Halloween is one of the big and special holidays of the year, especially with children.
